So who am I and why should you hire me? I am three people you will need to hire, all wrapped up in one efficient, reliable, easy-to-work-with package. But we’ll get to more about that in a moment.
It was always a dream of mine to pursue my passion in the hair and makeup field since I was a little girl in theater. But my career took off unexpectedly in 2015 when, married to a US Navy sailor on the beautiful island of Oahu, I started providing hair services to all of the sailors’ wives. Eventually that grew to include their husbands and children. Basically, anyone I could get my foils on at the time.
Fast forward to 2020: I had two children under the age of three, pregnant with a third, going through a divorce and moving 2,000 miles cross country … and then to top it off, we get hit with a global pandemic … life is grand. But nothing was going to get in the way of pursuing my passion.
So with $75 to my name, I took the leap and enrolled at the Paul Mitchell School to obtain my cosmetology license. Granted, I worked two jobs during the day to make ends meet while attending school at night, but it was all so very worth it! My children are my biggest inspiration and motivation to succeed in life. I want them to grow up and see the hard work it took to get their Mother where she is today. I want them to know that if she can do it despite the odds, then they have no excuse not to achieve any dream their heart desires.
Through perseverance and diligence, I graduated with several certifications in hair and makeup, and a number of hard-earned honors and awards (including first place in the annual makeup showcase and my greatest achievement, graduating on the Dean’s List). Because of this work ethic, the school Directors recommended me for a position on the hair and makeup team on the feature film “Amy’s F- It List,” directed by Mark S. Allen.
Since then, nothing can hold me back. I’ve been blessed immensely to have worked alongside amazing people in this industry in feature films, commercials, print advertising, docu-series, Sacramento Fashion Week shoots and others. Most recently, I was the “Department Head of HMU and Special Effects Designer” on Mark S Allen’s newest horror film, “Don’t Answer”.
On my journey, I’ve also been given the opportunity to work with a number of mentors who can vouch for my work: local and well known Director, Producer, ABC10 reporter, and the spokesperson for the Critics’ Choice Award, Mark S Allen and First Assistant Director, Quinn Gardner. Local and extremely talented key makeup artists: Angela Womack, Michelle Draper, and the winner of Season 3 of the SyFy Channel’s Special Effects makeup competition show “Faceoff,” Nicole Chilelli, and season 10 finalist Walter Welsh.
A few years ago, I took a chance on myself … challenging my own abilities and testing my limitations. I went to school to learn everything I could about hair, makeup and special effects makeup, then I continued to learn everything I could about them on my own after that. I wasn’t going to allow the idea of “what if” to prevent me from making the moves I needed to make to achieve success. So, I would like to ask you to do the same: What if you took the leap of faith with a young but talented and determined hair and makeup artist, one who is not only had the hunger and passion to travel for this career, but also can fulfill the job of three separate individuals – hair, makeup and special effects - , one who can deliver it fast, orderly, and exactly to your needs?
